Types of Floors
Detached shops & RV garages
Common on bigger lots on the north and west side of Rio Rancho. They take heavier vehicles, jack stands, welding and spills. A thicker build and chemical-resistant topcoat are typical.
Warehouses & light industrial
Forklift traffic, pallet jacks and line striping. Systems are chosen for abrasion and impact resistance.
Showrooms & retail
Metallic or solid-color epoxy and polished looks. Appearance matters as much as durability.
Commercial kitchens & food areas
Often urethane cement or other systems built for hot water, cleaning chemicals and drains. Ask what your health inspector requires.
Clinics, gyms & schools
Seamless, easy-to-clean floors. Slip resistance and quick turnaround are usually the priorities.

What Changes on a Commercial or Shop Job
- System selection. Coatings range from thin-film sealers to thick self-leveling epoxy, mortar systems and urethane cement. The right one depends on traffic, chemicals, temperature and moisture.
- Slab moisture testing. Large slabs, especially older ones or ones without a vapor barrier underneath, may need moisture testing and a vapor-mitigating primer.
- Joints and cracks. Control joints usually need to be honored (re-cut or filled with a flexible filler), not just coated over.
- Slip resistance. Aggregate broadcast into the coating provides traction where floors get wet or oily.
- Scheduling. Businesses often need weekend or phased work, and fast-cure systems can help.
- Unheated buildings. Detached shops can drop below a coating’s minimum application temperature in winter. Installers may need temporary heat or a warmer time of year.
