Published planning ranges from the sources named, not quotes from us. Your price comes from a written estimate on your floor.

Every number on this page comes from the public source named next to it, checked November 2, 2026. Anything marked ESTIMATE is our own arithmetic on those published figures. None of it is a quote. Prices vary by installer, product, slab condition and season.
Step 1: Measure Your Floor
Floor coatings are usually priced per square foot, so multiply the garage’s length by its width. Angi uses these sizes and national price ranges:
| Garage | Square feet (Angi) | U.S. installed range (Angi) |
|---|---|---|
| 1-car | 250 | $750–$3,000 |
| 2-car | 500 | $1,500–$6,000 |
| 3-car | 750 | $2,250–$9,000 |
Angi also reports a national average of $2,526, with most homeowners paying $1,650–$3,494. Measure your own floor: many Rio Rancho two-car garages are smaller or larger than 500 sq ft.
Add stem wall coating (if you want it) as linear feet around the edges.
Step 2: Understand the Price Range by System
| Option | Published range | Source |
|---|---|---|
| DIY epoxy (materials) | $2–$5 per sq ft | Angi. Thin kits and acid-etch prep carry the highest failure risk. |
| Professional install, all systems | $2–$12 per sq ft (labor alone $1–$7) | Angi, national |
| Standard flake epoxy system | $5–$8 per sq ft | NM Concrete Coating Pros, Albuquerque |
| Metallic or stained epoxy | $8–$12 per sq ft | NM Concrete Coating Pros, Albuquerque |
| Polyaspartic / one-day flake | No separate published figure we could verify | Ask each installer to quote epoxy and polyaspartic side by side. |
ESTIMATE Worked example: a 450 sq ft two-car garage at the $5–$8 per sq ft flake-system rate above comes to about $2,250–$3,600 before repairs or add-ons. That’s our arithmetic, not a quote. Many companies also have a minimum job price, so small one-car garages can cost more per foot.
Step 3: Know What Raises the Price
- Removing an old coating. Peeling paint or failed epoxy has to come off completely, which means extra grinding time.
- Crack and spall repair. A few hairline cracks are routine. Wide cracks, heaved slabs or crumbling areas add labor. Angi lists concrete patching at $25–$250 and full resurfacing at $1,000–$5,000.
- Moisture mitigation. If the slab pushes moisture, a special primer adds material cost.
- Oil-soaked concrete. Deep stains may need extra cleaning or treatment to bond.
- Stem walls, steps and transitions. Edges are slow, hand-detailed work.
- Moving stuff. Some companies charge to empty the garage. Doing it yourself saves money.
Step 4: Compare Quotes the Right Way
Two quotes for “epoxy floor” can be different products. Line them up on these points:
| Ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| How will you prep the concrete: grinding or acid etch? | Grinding is the professional standard and the main defense against peeling. |
| What products go on in each coat, and how many coats? | “Epoxy” ranges from thin paint to thick 100%-solids material. |
| What’s the total system thickness (mils)? | Thicker generally means more durable. Get it in writing. |
| Is the topcoat UV stable? | Important for sunny garages in Rio Rancho. |
| How do you handle cracks and control joints? | Untreated moving cracks can reappear. |
| Do you test for moisture? | Moisture is a leading cause of coating failure. |
| What exactly does the warranty cover, and who backs it? | Look for peeling and hot tire pickup coverage. Know whether it’s the installer’s or the manufacturer’s. |
| When can I walk on it, and when can I park on it? | Plan where your car and stuff will go. |
| Are you insured, and can I see proof? | Protects you if something goes wrong on your property. |
Licensing in New Mexico
New Mexico licenses construction trades through the Construction Industries Division of the Regulation and Licensing Department. Ask any company whether they hold a state contractor license for this type of work, and you can look up a license on the state’s website. Requirements depend on the job, so ask the company and check with the state if you’re unsure.
Is It Worth It?
If you plan to stay in the house a few years, use the garage as a workspace, or just hate the dust, a professionally prepped coating usually holds up far better than paint or a kit. If you’re selling soon, a clean, coated garage can help it show well, but don’t expect to get the full cost back. The best value comes from good prep and the right topcoat, not the fanciest flake.
